An illustrators journey
Russell Walker is an established illustrator who required help artworking his new book Scribble — a creative journey spanning over 30 years of creative illustration and design work from the master himself.
With Russells wonderful artwork in all different shapes, sizes and formats, laying out the design of his book was no easy task. Using a uniformed, yet flexible grid layout it made sense to seperate type from image. Russell’s work took centre stage at the top with great impact and the text element ran across the bottom, making it easy for the reader to follow his story as it unfolds.
Book Layout & Design
My job was to help produce a book design and layout that would present over 100 of Russells images, across 160 pages, in a clean and consistent manner, whilst allowing Russell to portray his story. My favourite little design touch was the Fetchaset dog icon strolling along the page footer to fetch his ball, demonstrating a journey.
“It was a pleasure to work alongside James & Sean (collaborator) throughout the production period of the book. This was a year of creative refinement and critical evaluation, which ensured that each aspect of ‘Scribble’, was just as I had envisaged it. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with James & Sean again in the future, they are creative professionals.
